Visiting Teams
Canadian Moose
The Canadian Moose Ice Hockey Club was founded in 1989 as a world travelling team. Through a mutual love of ice hockey, the organization was formed with the goals of travelling internationally to spread the fever, and to act as ambassadors for the game. Their objective is to travel throughout the world visiting countries underdeveloped in ice hockey to promote the sport as they proudly represent Canada. The Canadian Moose Ice Hockey Club (C.M.I.H.C.), previously known as The Newmarket Bombers and Toronto Moose, was formed in 1989 by Mark Sadgrove as a world travelling team. The roster includes a broad spectrum of occupations and ranges in ice hockey experience from former professional, junior and university players to “weekend” recreational players. On their travels they have introduced the sport to many new enthusiasts in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. During numerous tours “Down Under”, they helped gain public awareness of the sport with a World Record attempt at playing the longest hockey game. It was a successful event and the record was beaten with a thirteen-hour game which has since been eclipsed. Also, the sold out crowds enjoyed great excitement when they challenged and defeated the Netherlands, New Zealand and Australian Olympic National teams. The Canadian Moose Ice Hockey Club has created a following throughout the world. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to the group and hope they enjoy their stay next time they’re in Southern New Zealand.
