On Saturday night the first round of this year’s Peewees vs their Parents match was played.
In a stunning upset, the parents beat the peewees 5 – 4 after the peewees tied it up midway through the third. Parents goalie (and Peewees Manager) Pete Wallis shut out his own sun with a stunning post to post save on the wrap around, flicking the puck out from on the line, late in the game.
The two teams will have a rematch at the end of the season, the parents will have to pick up despite their win, as its unlikely the ring-in, Ice Blacks coach Jeff Bonazzo will be available for the return leg.

The Dunedin Peewees beat Gore 22-3 and Queenstown 15-7 in their Southern Ice Hockey League (SIHL) games held today in Dunedin.

Message from Ross and Sharon Burns, managers of the Southern Peewee friendship team:
Were you born in 1995 or 1996?
If you were, you and your parents are invited to attend a meeting to be held at the Dunedin Rink on Sunday, 6 April at 2.00pm for the Southern Ice Hockey team to travel to the Friendship Games to be held in Japan in March 2009.
If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to trial for the team please let us know by return email. The places and dates for trials are still to be confirmed.
This is a very special opportunity to play against players from all over the world.
The cost of the trip is estimated between $6,000 and $7,000 per player. To enable the majority of players to attend there will be a lot of fundraising involved which means a very strong commitment from parents as well as players.
You would also be required to attend practices over and above your usual ice-hockey commitments. We will try to have these held on days you will already be travelling to tournaments and Southern practices, however you will also be required to attend practices during the summer months leading up to the games.
The team is very lucky to have Larry Wheeler as coach and Tony Brookes as assistant coach.
We look forward to a very exciting March 2009.
Ross (and Sharon) Burns
Manager
Southern Peewee Friendship Team
The peewee and midget practices have been cancelled. The peewees practice will start Tuesday 4th March and Bantam / Midget will start Thursday 6th March.
The DIHA decided last night that all practices will start next week.
Practice fees are $350 for the year. This needs to be paid in two installments, half in March and the rest in the beginning of June.
