The New Zealand Ice Blacks are leaving today (Tuesday 25th March) to attend a training camp in Beijing China before competing in the IIHF World Championships Division 2 Pool B in Newcastle Australia from 7 to 14 April 2008. The team will be competing at the World Championships against China, Mexico, Iceland, Spain and Australia.

Tickets are available for the 2008 IIHF World Championships Division II Group B which the New Zealand Ice Blacks are competing in. The event is taking place between April 7th and 13th 2008 in NSW Australia.

Dunedin player James van Leeuwen will be heading to Australia to play with the New Zealand Ice Blacks next month. They will be competing in the World Division II Ice Hockey Championships for the first time.

The New Zealand Under 20 Ice Hockey Team have won the gold medal in the IIHF U20 World Ice Hockey Championships Division 3 in Belgrade recently. New Zealand beat the favoured team Serbia to win their first ever World Championships. The team won the gold medal in a tight 5 – 4 game vs Serbia after beating Bulgaria (19 – 1), Turkey (20 -1), Armenia (8 – 4) and Australia (7 – 2). They are yet to play South Africa, but can not be beaten to the Gold Medal and will be promoted to Division 2 for 2009.
