Kiwihockey

Kiwihockey is beginner hockey for youth players – normally under 12, but we accept players up to age 14. If you can skate (we recommend Kiwiskate for learning basic skating skills for kids) then you’re ready to gear up and try hockey for the first time.

hockeycamp_160During term time Kiwihockey takes place on Thursday afternoons, 5pm. We also run school holiday programmes. Kiwihockey players will also have regular games on Saturday afternoons.

Kiwihockey is run by our professional coach, with assistant coaches, using the Learn to Play programme, an international system of coaching children using small-group stations and small area games.

All kiwihockey participants will receive full playing gear, including skates, sticks, helmets, gloves, elbow pads, and shin pads. Kids are able to take this gear away in an ice hockey bag, and keep it for the length of the programme, but must pay a $50 bond and $40 annual rental. Kiwihockey provides players with the basic skills to advance to play in the peewees and other grades of ice hockey.
